For the audition you will need to:
Record a video of one song of your choice to sing for us. This can be from whichever genre you choose - without accompaniment. This is to showcase your musicality and help us to see your passion for singing! Pick something you love to sing. We are listening for musical expression, vocal tone, and what makes you musically you! Due to timing - please limit your rendition to 2-3 minutes of singing.
Record a video of you singing along to the audition piece (Ave Maria). You are free to select any vocal part(s) to sing along to. This is to help us understand your ability to learn music and sing harmonies. We expect you to have the audition piece playing in the background loud enough as though it sounds like we’re in the room singing beside you.
The rehearsal and concert schedule is currently being set for the year. We will react appropriately and will modify rehearsals/performances to ensure safety for our singers and our audience.

Auditions are always scary and awkward… no matter how prepared you are or how nice we are! We appreciate the time you take to prepare your material and we are aware that auditions don’t always showcase your true potential. So come and do your best and try not to worry about it! We are glad that you have expressed an interest in Ecco and we look forward to meeting you.
Good luck!
Ecco Singers Potential Singers Information
Are you wondering if Ecco Singers is the right choir for you? Here is a bit more information about us.
Ecco strives to be an elite chamber choir. Most of the singers have some kind of choral background and are looking to utilize these skills. Singers are adults and span in age range. It is our goal to perform concerts that are easily accessible to all listeners. It is also important to us that Singers feel challenged in a fun, supportive way. We perform music that is meaningful and it is our hope that our music makes a difference in our world in some way. We work hard to perform at our absolute BEST at every concert.
As a Singer in Ecco you can expect that the director will be prepared and organized for every rehearsal and concert. Music will be selected from a variety of genres based on what the choir is best able to effectively communicate. There are a limited number of positions in the choir.
Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings 7:00 to 9:45 pm. The majority of rehearsals are currently held at Elim Chapel (Spence and Portage) except for the last rehearsal before every concert and the dress rehearsal. Those rehearsals, as well as the concerts, are held at Crescent Fort Rouge United Church. The Big Band Dance will be held at Judy Silver Student Commons - Maples Collegiate (1330 Jefferson Avenue). There are three full-day rehearsals (October, January, and March). These events are designed to help us get to know each other and also to experience great music in a pristine setting.
Our expectations of Singers are:
Singers are committed to singing the entire season. In order to create a unified sound, we need to have the same group at every concert. (Reminder to review the rehearsal and performance dates above)
Singers are committed to attending EVERY rehearsal. It is frustrating to the entire group when Singers aren’t at every rehearsal. If a Singer misses two or more rehearsals per concert a discussion with the director will take place about singing in that particular concert.
Singers are expected to be ON TIME to every rehearsal. Enough said.
Singers are expected to know their music. For some people, this means extra time spent on notes and rhythms outside of regular rehearsal time. Assistance is available on request.
There is a registration fee of around $275 ~ $325 for the season. This goes towards the costs of music, rehearsal space, accompanists, etc. Actual registration fees will be confirmed by the audition.
There are incidental costs that come up throughout the year, including clothing for regular concerts and dress clothes for the last concert. There is also a silent auction that the Singers contribute towards for the final show (which is more gala than a regular concert).
Singers are expected to participate in selling concert tickets. Ideally, each Singer sells 6 or more tickets per concert.
Singers are expected to help with the organization and execution of concert events. There are many tasks that need to be done in order to run effective and efficient concerts. Singers will have an opportunity to volunteer for a task that suits their skills....or one is assigned to them!
The director attempts to be accommodating when circumstances arise over which Singers have no control. However, if we let too many of these circumstances get in our way, we are prevented from being the best we can be. This is a committed group of Singers. To get the full participation value all Singers need to be committed.
It is a privilege to conduct Singers of this caliber. It is a privilege for Singers to be a part of this group. The satisfaction comes from performing to our fullest potential......the fun is in the hard work. We are not about putting undue pressure on individuals, but rather finding our separate strengths and bringing them together to make beautiful music that is far greater than the sum of its parts.
Regardless of whether or not you become a part of our music, we wish you all the best in your pursuit of musical satisfaction!
Sing along to this if you are a soprano.
Sing along to this if you are an alto.
